Charlevoix Travel Guide
Welcome to Charlevoix, MI!
This unique resort town is the hub of northern Michigan vacation destinations. Having a location in the midst of several bodies of water creates an ideal opportunity for world-class fishing and recreation. The shores of Lake Michigan span to the north of Charlevoix, with Lake Charlevoix reaching northwest to southeast and providing water access to Boyne City. Round Lake, used in part as a harbor, connects Lake Charlevoix to Lake Michigan and is encompassed by the population of Charlevoix. The town's population swells in the summer months with vacation home owners and tourists, reaching nearly ten times its off-season size. Neighborhoods are lined with boutiques; eateries, art galleries and character homes, drawing interest to districts such as Downtown Charlevoix and the Earl Young Homes. The latter neighborhood consists of irregularly shaped houses that utilize natural surrounding as part of their architecture, and often are referred to as hobbit or fairy houses. Close to half a dozen nature preserves and parks are scattered throughout Charlevoix County, balancing fresh lake water with lush green space. Sleepy Hollow Nature Preserve stretches over 55 acres, encompassing a cedar swamp, a spring fed creek and a hardwood forest with a wide range of wildflower and animal species. Another popular park is Fisherman's Island State Park, which features campgrounds, picnic areas and hiking trails.
